(2.01) What is one Enlightenment belief the Founders used when creating the U.S. Constitution/Government? Give a specific Enlightenment belief, state where we see or can find that idea in our government/founding documents, and explain why it is an example of an Enlightenment belief.
Example: John Locke believed that citizens have the right to remove leaders who are failing to protect them. We see this through the actions of the American Revolution, and stated in the Declaration of Independence. This is an example because the colonists chose to declare freedom from British rule since they were failing to protect their rights and were ruling unfairly.
(2.02) What is one strength and one weakness of the Articles of Confederation? How does the U.S. Constitution solve the weakness of the Articles of Confederation that you identified?
Example: A strength of the Articles of Confederation is that it tried to provide economic stability by allowing the federal government to coin money. A weakness of the Articles of Confederation is that it did not provide a federal army. When creating the current U.S. Constitution our Founders knew that we needed a federal army, and our Executive Branch includes the creation, maintenance, and leadership over a federal army.
