Australian cyclist Peter Dawson raced well enough to win his team a place in the 2004 Olympic finals. However, only four members of the six-member team could compete in the finals. The coach chose the four cyclists that together had set a world record earlier in the competition. So When Australia won the gold, Dawson and his teammate, Stephan Wooldridge, didn't get a medal. Still, he was in the stadium that day, carrying bikes and offering encouragement. Later, the International Olympic Committee decided to award Dawson and Wooldridge gold medals also.
