If the statements of witnesses and the autopsy report contradict each other the police should investigate everything again properly. First check to see if the witnesses are the criminals and also check of the autopsy was wrong. I believe an autopsy to be more accurate since people might think or see one thing but it is something else. But at the same time the witnesses claims can help the officers find out the original cause (if there are no lies or if they weren't mistaken about what they saw or heard). The thing that might be especially satisfying about a career in forensic pathology is about what you can find out (just as autopsy reports) and just how much you've wanted to do it (the career in forensic pathology). The difficult part about is that one thing can make a very BIG difference and that determining the cause might be hard.
