After the defeat of Ottoman forces against Russians ot the Ottoman-Russian border, the Young Turks blamed the defeat on the Armenians, first by demobilizing the Armenian troops, sending them to labor divisions and then systematically murdering them. Shortly after this, irregular Ottoman forces began to slaughter Armenians. After the events that unfolded in Van, the Young Turk government removed all intellectual Armeniens from there jobs, and offices of power, and were then killed shortly after.
