First off, you have to know what a mixed number is. A mixed number consists of a whole number with a fraction in front of it. It is an improper fraction (Like the one you have above) converted into a neater number. But, when you are multiplying and converting numbers, make sure to keep it in improper fraction form. 

So let's think about your fraction for a minute. It is 16/6. How many times can 6 go into 16? That will be your whole number when you are finished writing your mixed number. Then, what is the remainder of the fraction? That will be your fraction after the whole number in the mixed number when you are finished writing it. 

So now let's do the work. 6 can go into 16 2 times. So, all that you have written down now is a big two on your paper. The remainder is 4/6 because you have already used 12/6. BUT WAIT! Don't write the 4/6 down yet, it can be reduced (Simplified)! 4/6 can both be divided by two. Now, you have 2/3. Now that the fraction is fully reduced, you can now put the 2/3 after the big 2. 

So, your final answer is that 16/6 reduces to 2 2/3 as a mixed number.
