substituting  x = 2y +8 in equation (ii)

 ⇒  3( 2y +8) = 19 +4y

⇒   6y +24 = 19 +4y

⇒  6 y - 4y = 19 - 24

⇒   2 y = -5

   [tex]y = \frac{-5}{2} = -2.5[/tex]

Step(ii):-

Substitute 'y' = -2.5 in equation (i) , we get

         x - 2y = 8

   ⇒  x - 2( [tex]\frac{-5}{2}[/tex]) =8

  ⇒  x = 8 -5

      x = 3
