King Louis XVI pettiness to take revenge on the British in the independence of America pretty much left France in a worse state than it was ever before. Even in politics, the majority of the population was mistreated and was underrepresented. However, the nobility (who made up very little of the population) were represented more.

All of these factors began a French Revolution. Not to mention, the idea of enlightenment, also was a major reason for the French Revolution as the people started to question the reason for why the country even needs a king.
