The outlier is 12 because if you were to align all these numbers on a plot none of them would be on the same spot but they would be close except for 12 because it is a very low number compared to the rest of the numbers. The outlier affects the median because the outlier tells the median which number is higher or lower than the rest of the numbers and the figure out the median you need to place the numbers in order. The outlier affect the mean because the outlier tells you which number is the highest or lowest, when you're going to find the average between these numbers you need to set them up in an organized way (from greatest to least) the outlier reveals one of those numbers.
