After WW2 India expected decolonization due to their part in the war. This was not the case and this led to protests. Gandhi rose as a leader in these protests finding ways to protest laws (like mentioned in D) that people disagreed with and in doing so ultimately drive out British colonists and companies. Now the Indian National Congress was very important and brought some slight changes although this is unrelated to Gandhi and his plan for freedom.
