At the time of Darwin's travels, the scientific community was beginning to abandon ideas linked to creationism to adopt more scientific and testable concepts, less linked to religiosity. Darwin was very influenced by these new concepts and decided to study a way to apply them to the biological diversity that planet earth presented.
