Ulysses' journey home back from Troy takes ten years, and he faces many dangers on the way. He is rescued partly by the help of goddess Athena, but largely by his own confinement. By the time he arrives home to Ithaca, he has been away for twenty years in total, and his house is full of men who wish to marry his wife, Penelope, believing she is now a widow.
