The easiest way to find the y-intercept is by graphing. Luckily, there is a graph already provided. We can see that the line crosses the y-axis at the -4 margin. What this means is that the coordinate of that line is 4 units below (and 0 units left/right of) the origin.

Points on a line can be named as an ordered pair (x,y), with x being the horizontal component and y being the vertical component. We will say that (for this point) x can be 0 because left and right pertain to horizontalness. We can also say that y can be -4 because the above and below pertain to verticalness. The y has to be -4 because the regular number line (going right or up) is positive, while going the opposite way (going left or down) is negative. NOW we can say that this point (the y-intercept) is located at (0,-4).
