  • The isolated species has no neighboring species to interact with just as it would have happened in their natural environment. Studying it this way may not be the best because the true behavior of the organism cannot be established alone.
  • The isolated species might behave differently in the agar medium as from its natural environment which is the teeth plaque.

Based on these problems, the information from studying a lone isolated species from teeth plaque might not be totally reliable as the condition of the organism in agar medium is quite different from its natural environment.
