Write a paragraph in which you consider at least three differences between acquiring English and learning Standard English.

Sagot :

Naturally acquiring English is something that is picked up from birth as you hear your parents, siblings, and other English speakers.

Mastering Standard English is formal instruction on speaking, reading, and writing English correctly.

Linguists believe that there is a significant difference between language learning and language acquisition.

What are the differences between language learning and acquiring?

Children learn their mother tongue (or) language through interactions with their "parents" and the "environment" in which they grow up. Their need to communicate creates an environment conducive to language learning.

(i) A person's first language is their mother tongue or native language, whereas a second language is one that they learn to converse with native speakers of that language.

(ii) The first language is similar to an instinct that is initiated by birth and develops via exposure to it. A person's choice of a second language is their own.

(iii) The learning process for the first language is very quick, whereas the learning process for the second language might vary from "language to language" and from "individual to individual," but it will never be as quick as learning the first language.

(iv) The acquisition of a first (1st) language is always natural, and there is no need for teaching. However, learning a second (2nd) language is not natural and requires constant direction and training.
