Catholics burn incense to worship the sun god. Its usually burnt on holidays such as christmas as a celebration for the sun to shine another day, the god is called “lent” the sun god and another god that had a correlation is also “Tammuz” the god of fertility.
It also depends on what type of incense, if its for when someone passed away, it means like their soul is going to heaven.
If its like burnt ashes on your head its supposed to symbolize jesus death.
