There are different  kinds of loops. The answer is that the descending portion of the loop of Henle is very permeable to water and known to be less permeable to ions, this makes water is to be very easy to be reabsorbed here and solutes are said not very easy to reabsorbed.

  • While the ascending limb is said to be impermeable to water, but only permeable to ions. In it, Sodium (Na+), potassium (K+) etc. can be  reabsorbed from the urine through the use of secondary active transport.

  • The Descending limb is permeable to water and impermeable to salt or ions While the Ascending limb is impermeable to water and permeable to salt or ions.

We can therefore say that thee Ascending limb of Henle's loop is impermeable to water but the descending limb is permeable to water.
