A conflict of interest could be if a journalist is friends or related to someone involved in a crime.  This would be a problem because when the journalist writes about the story, they would be biased and make the other person sound like they are the worst person in the world and make the person they're related to or friends with sound like an innocent bystander.  In other cases, it could defame someone and cause the person that the journalist knows, is related to, or friends with sound like the best person in the world.

Objectivity is essential for journalists because remaining neutral gives readers both sides of the story without exaggerating.  If the did not have it, no one would get the right story and people would be swayed to think that one person is a horrible monster while the other person is innocent.

Freedom of press makes this role possible because it is able to create articles about things that government officials are doing that is either good or bad.  If freedom of press wasn't a thing, the media couldn't legally publish their articles about topics involving bad things that officials have done.  It wouldn't let the people know what was happening and no one would ever know that government official A read some top secret papers and told government official B from an enemy country what it said in exchange for safe passage into the country.
