Why do you think donkey wants so badly to go with Shrek? why does he instantly connect to Shrek despite Shrek’s surly personality in the musical
I think because either 1) hes lonely and he wants friends even if his friend is an ogre or 2) he looks up to shrek and admires him and maybe tries to act like him (like an idol).
Donkey is clearly emotionally and socially isolated, which we notice at the beginning of the film. He quickly takes a liking to Shrek, probably because he notices that Shrek is similarly isolated. Despite their juxtaposed personalities, Donkey and Shrek share a desire to be appreciated in society, which Donkey acknowledges early on.
