A man entered the box, shot him, and Lincoln died the next day. The man was a famous actor known as John Wilkes Booth. Booth was bitter about the Confederacy’s defeat, so he hatched a plan to not only assassinate the president (Abraham Lincoln), but he also planned to assassinate Vice President Andrew Johnson and the Secretary of State William Seward. He failed to kill both the Secretary of State and Vice President, but still killed Abraham Lincoln. Union soldiers later hunted down Booth and killed him.
