To solve for   5x2–2x−9=0

Then you have to rearrange the equation into:

x2−(2/5)x−9/5=0

= x2−(2/5)x=9/5

= (x−(2/10))2−(2/5)2=9/5(here b = 2/5)

= (x−(2/10))2=46/25

Then you take the square root on both sides

= (x−(2/10))=±1.356

Therefore  x=1.556  or say −1.156.
