The US space program has NEVER launched a capsule full of money into space. NEVER ! The money spent on the space program is paid to hundreds of thousands of employees and contractors who design, develop, build, and launch the spacecraft and the scientific equipment they carry.
These people who get the money spend it to buy homes, cars, clothes, beer and bread, and send their children to school ... exactly the same things other Americans do with the money they earn on their jobs.
Just because the most visible product of this industry gets shot into space and never comes back does NOT mean that the money to do it is also lost forever. It's taxpayer money that the government pours straight back into the nation's economy, through the hands of the workers and scientists who operate the US space program.
