why is a parallelogram not the same type of quadrilateral as trapezoid
A quadrilateral trapezoid means that there are four sides to the trapezoid. But two of those sides (which are across from each other if you were to draw it out) are not parallel, meaning that if you were to continue the lines they start from, they would eventually cross.
