romanticism is a movement revolving around focus on individuality, the imagination, and glorification of nature that emerged in the 18th century. it was especially influential in arts and literature. some characteristics of the movement include:
- love & worship of nature and beauty
- focus and belief in individuality rather than society, accepting solitude as beautiful and acknowledging the outcast
- passionate expression of feelings and awareness of emotion, “heart over head” mentality
- exploration/musing of the supernatural
- wonder and the innocence of childhood, imagination
- developed as a response to enlightenment values
