Henry David Thoreau was a transcendentalist who define Civil disobedience as the refusal to follow the law if it's morally incorrect. He suggested the people protest in support of rebels against the cruel law laid by the government.
According to him, Civil disobedience is correct if the society and the government are morally corrupt and do not regards the basic freedom and rights of the common man. So in case of injustice, Civil disobedience can act as a greater system that can keep a check on wrongdoings.
Therefore, Thoreau criticized the American government for abusing its powers and deriving the citizens of their rights.
