(x + 2)² + 12(x + 2) – 14 = 0

Replacing x + 2 with u we get,

u² + 12u - 14

using quadratic formula we get

u = (-12 ±√(12² - 4x1 x-14))/2

u =(-12 ±√200)/2

u = -6 ± 5√2

x +2 = u = -6 ± 5√2

x = u = -8 ± 5√2.
