Carbohydrates naturally obtained from grains ( bread, noodles, pasta , crackers) , fruits ( apples, banana, mangoes) and cannot further hydrolyzed to give simpler unit of polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketone is called a monosaccharide. There are 20 monosaccharide also known to occur in nature. For examples - Ribose, galactose , glucose , fructose , etc.
