Sagot :
The particles have opposite types of charges.
Charged Particles In A Magnetic Field :
If a charged particle with charge q enters a magnetic field of strength B with a velocity v, it experiences a magnetic Lorentz force. The force is given by,
[tex]F = qv[/tex] × B
Thus if the particle enters the field parallel to the field direction then there is no force. It will continue in a straight line. If it enters the field in a perpendicular direction then the force has a magnitude [tex]qvB[/tex] and it is directed perpendicular to the velocity. If the force is always perpendicular to the velocity then the motion is in a circle.
It is given that two charged particles with charges say [tex]q_{1}[/tex] and [tex]q_{2}[/tex] projected in the same direction enter a magnetic field that is perpendicular to their velocities. Due to the magnetic Lorentz force acting on them will have magnitudes [tex]q_{1} v_{1} B[/tex] and [tex]q_{2} v_{2} B[/tex].
The particles are however deflected in opposite directions. This means that the signs of [tex]q_{1}[/tex] and [tex]q_{2}[/tex] are different.
So we may conclude that the particles have opposite types of charges.
