You have chosen a topic, completed several prewriting activities, done your research, and created your strong thesis statement. Now it is time to write the rough draft of your essay.
This assessment has two parts:
Part 1: Draft
Use the facts and strong arguments you collected in your 4.03 research assignment, your 4.04 Mind Map and the feedback you received on your framed paragraph to write the rough draft of your essay. You will need to cite your sources.
Your essay should include an introductory paragraph, at least two framed body paragraphs that include your research as specific examples, and a concluding paragraph.
INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH: In paragraph #1, you will introduce the topic. You want to “hook” your reader with an interesting opening statement or question. Please highlight your thesis statement.

BODY PARAGRAPHS: You are required to have at least 2 body paragraphs. Look at your Cluster in lesson 4.02 and your Mind Map from lesson 4.04. For each “branch” of the map, you will now explain, elaborate, and give details to create a paragraph. This is where you can include research from lesson 4.03. Remember the framed paragraph structure? Each paragraph will have a topic sentence, at least two supporting details, and examples. Using transition words and phrases will help tie your thoughts and ideas together.

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH: This paragraph wraps up the essay. You should not provide any new information here, but you should restate your thesis and main ideas to tie everything together. Your concluding paragraph takes the opposite shape of your introductory paragraph because it begins by restating your thesis, and continues sentence by sentence to get more and more general."
