If three points are collinear and we form three segments with them we obtain the following:

As you can see there's always a segment that is larger than the other two. In this case that is AC since AC>BC>AB. What's more, as you notice the length of the largest segment is equal to the sum of the lengths of the two shorter segments: AC=AB+BC. This implies that the point that is not an extreme of the largest sides is always the one in the middle, in this case B.

In question 11 we are given the following segments between points A, E and D:
