What is chloroplast?

The chloroplast are the chlorophyll containing organelles present in the organisms which have the ability to carry out photosynthesis. Chloroplasts are double membrane organelles ( actually triple membrane), the outer membrane and the inner membrane. The stroma is the fluid filled space like the matrix of the mitochondria. It contains the enzymes used in the dark reaction of the photosynthesis. The thylakoids contain the photosynthetic pigments and are involved in the light reaction of the photosynthesis. The stack of thylakoids is called grana.
