Alfred Jacob Miller: Who was he?
American artist Alfred Jacob Miller (January 2, 1810 – June 26, 1874) is best known for his depictions of trappers and Native Americans engaged in the western United States' fur trade. In and around Baltimore throughout the middle of the nineteenth century, he also produced a large number of genre and portrait paintings. Miller, the eldest of George W. and Harriet J. Miller's nine children, was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Miller's father ran a farm at Hawkins Point in addition to being a merchant and tavern owner in inner Baltimore.
