The American public grew quite critical of the war after, as Walter Cronkite stated on the news to every American household, there reached a standstill. Even though the US was able to repel most Viet Cong attacks as the Communist insurgency had been very badly spread across too large of a territory, the instant bloodshed in every single part of the country gave Americans the impression that they were losing the war. Soon, many more people wanted America to just get out of it while they still could.
