William Grayson was a politician in the state of North Carolina. He served as a member of the State House of Representatives from 1813 to 1815 and 1822 to 1825 and in the State Senate from 1826 to 1831. He was a frequent contributor to the Southern Quarterly Review and owned a large plantation.
He is also known for his poem "The Hireling and the Slave" (1855), in which he describes the benefits of slavery for slaves, such as becoming "tamed, enlightened and refined."
