AP US History question:
To what extent was the breakup of the Union in 1861 a result of the conflict over slavery and to what extent was it due to other factors?
Despite some revisionist historians who say otherwise, the Civil War was absolutely about slavery and very little else. Yes it was technically about "state's rights" but the right in question was the right to have slaves. There was nothing else that was even close in terms of a factor.
