in my opinion it's harmful. people spend way too much time on it
pros : put yourself out there in a good way, connect with students in other educational systems, make new friends/communicate or connect with old friends/family
cons : posting inappropriate statuses/pictures, making people feel bad about themselves, cyberbullying
