Congress still needs to take a number of steps before extending government money for CHIP. Early in December 2017, a bill to extend CHIP funding was approved by the House. The Senate Finance Committee reported a funding extension measure out of committee at the start of October 2017. But no decision to renew funds has yet been made by the entire Senate. The full Senate must still approve the final law, any discrepancies between the House and Senate versions must be resolved, and the President must sign it.
