Today we learned about how Enlightenment thinkers viewed government and its role in our lives. Enlightenment philosophers believed that the role of government was to protect the people and govern according to the general will of the people. In the video, we learned that democracy should reflect the values of the nation. Over the course of American history, our nation's values have changed as our world has changed.
