why did Columbus sail west to Asia rather than travel by land through the middle east?
Whenever I think of a question like this, I think of the 3 Gs; God, Gold, and Glory. He wanted something to do with all three, especially the latter two. He also believed that it was a faster route to Asia, while unknowingly discovering a new continent previously unknown to the white man.
